Almost Purrfect Cats

If you would like to be considered as a Foster to Adopt candidate, please complete an adoption application at Adoption Application. Each application is considered for approval on a case by case basis.

As a rescue group we receive numerous calls about all types of cats daily. In the case of our ‘Almost Purrfect Cats’ we have accepted them into our rescue and have worked with each of these kitties on a case by case basis to make them as comfortable as possible in preparation for a new forever home. Each of our cats is unique but with most of these kitties they likely need a more patient adopter that is willing to give them more time than usual to adjust to their new environment. Our team is here to guide you and support you even once your new family member has become your forever companion. When you put in the work with a special cat, the reward is like none other! Please let us know about your experience with socializing and caring for cats when completing your adoption application.

Porter, Female, Born 2015

Porter

Porter came to Tails High a very scared mommy cat with her babies but she has made a lot of progress with her foster mom over time. She can still be a bit quite cautious but she loves pets.   Porter will need a cat experienced adopter to give her the love and patience she needs. We know she will be a fantastic companion who will continue to flourish in the right home. Porter gets along well with other cats and would be happy to join other kitties in her forever home. Porter is not a good first cat and will not do well with young children. We expect she will not appreciate dogs.

Fiona, Female, Birth Date TBD

Fiona

Fiona is a beautiful and intelligent kitty that will need a cat experienced adopter to help her continue to flourish. Fiona is very shy and takes quite a while to warm up to new people but that doesn’t mean she isn’t a happy lady. She really seems to enjoy being with other cats in her foster home, often seen snuggling with someone in a soft blanket and being close during meal times. While Fiona will likely never be a lap cat, she deserves a happy life with a family that is patient and willing to let her have space to grow confidence. We would love to find her a forever home with someone willing to continue socializing her and working with our team on methods we have found helpful in helping kitties acclimate to new environments. To be considered as a prospective adopter please tell us how you think you can help Fiona so she can live out her life with lots of care and love in your adoption application.

Onyx, Male, Born 2020

Onyx

Onyx is a very sweet boy that has learned to trust humans slowly but surely since being rescued. He loves the company of other kitties and would do best in a home with other cats where he can continue to be socialized and build his confidence. Onyx is a great listener and enjoys his routine to make him feel as comfortable as possible in a new environment. His foster mom has taught him how to give head boops and kisses and would be happy to work with his new family to show them how to continue helping Onyx become the perfect house cat. Onyx needs to be adopted by a cat experienced adopter that is willing to give him time and patience as he acclimates to his new home.

Little Mouse and Mama Mia (bonded pair) – Females – Est birthdates 2 and 3 years

Little Mouse and Mama Mia

Mama Mia wasn’t always Mama Mia. She was once just a cat called “Mama.” Mama was a stray who was first discovered by a lovely couple who had just started renting their home. At first, Mama had no name, no identity and no one to love her. That was before Donnie saw her. Donnie spotted her outside his new home one day and immediately started feeding her. She was scared, cold, and alone. One day, Donnie and his wife Dana noticed Mama was looking pretty plump. Donnie seemed to feel quite pleased with himself for keeping her so well fed but Dana had another theory on it. That’s how this no-named stray got to be called Mama. While Mama’s belly rapidly grew, the concern for her welfare became increasingly high. The kind couple was not able to take her into their home so they sought out a cat rescue to help. Sadly, the stars did not align for Mama that season. Mama, although not feral, was highly unsocialized and would not be touched…still untrusting of the hands that fed her. Fast forward a few months…Mama had her babies and the surviving ones grew. Donnie and Dana would watch them come and go and worried about them nonstop. Donnie continued to make calls and inquiries about trapping them and bringing them all to safety. Plans were stirring to try again to help, but each day that passed was another day of uncertainty the Littles would survive. Help came too late for some. One by one, the Littles disappeared. Only one was left…the smallest baby and that’s how Baby got her name. Weeks turned into months and the routine continued…twice a day feedings for Mama and Baby were the norm. Baby was not even a year old when her belly started growing. “Getting fat” Donnie said, but Dana already knew. Donnie and Dana continued to seek help until finally, help came.
To The ResQ sent an experienced trapper to bring them both to safety. Mama was trapped first and transported promptly to the vet by the ResQ Shuttle for a full round of vaccinations and spay. Baby was a bit harder to trap, being the more timid of the two. She was brought in a couple days after Mama with intentions to get her to the vet and then off to a new home as soon as possible. She can stay for “a couple days” the foster said. However, the Universe laughed in the face of these intentions. The vets were full, and it was several weeks before she could secure an appointment. So, the waiting games began. The day before Baby’s vet appointment, she surprised her foster with the birth of 4 beautiful girls and 1 teeny boy…all perfect and healthy. No doubt her “temporary” foster would fall in love with the babies. They were not going anywhere…at least not anytime soon! Mama’s maternal instincts took over and she softened- letting the nurturing floodgate flow, she poured everything into her new family. She was there for Baby every step of the way. She was her coach, her supporter, her encourager, her nurse. Mama was everything to her Baby. When Baby was exhausted from birthing, Mama cleaned her. She protected and supported her. She let her eat first! She cared for the Littles and rarely left Baby’s side. Oh but the spice! Mama wasn’t nice! Not to humans anyway. If you got too close to her family, she would strike quicker than a snake in the dog days of summer. She was quite impressive actually. One quick, effective strike. Mama never gave warning and she never missed. While Mama was busy protecting her new grandbabies, Baby…now affectionately named “Little Mouse” was busy being a good mama. Even though she was still a baby herself, Little Mouse also became a loving mom. She did everything right and raised 5 loving, healthy babies, all who got adopted quickly. Little Mouse had several weeks of sheer bliss with her babies…the oxytocin that kicked in allowed her to relax, exude that happy glow and find intense feelings of affection. During this time she happily and gratefully allowed herself to be spoon fed and gently stroked to sleep. Her foster mom would spend hours laying next to her, adoring her, and holding her paw as she nursed and slept. As the babies naturally weaned from their mom, Little Mouse gradually reverted to her normal hormone levels and became reclusive with humans once more. She showed signs of alternating between fully and partially unsocialized behaviors. Although she had the full run of the house, she had taken to staying in one room. Her world was small, but she didn’t mind.
Today, Mama is now Mama Mia. She earned her name due to her passion for her family…a fierce and loving protector. Spicy. Italian spicy. So Mama Mia was born. (Aka Mama, Mama MeeMee, MeeMee). Today, Mama Mia is the number one maker of floor biscuits, developer of little cooing purrs, lover of head to tail back strokes and the ultimate chair rubbing pheromone depositor. Gone are her overprotective dagger swats and long stares. She is now a happy explorer, a curious companion, a social sister and most of all, the gentlest and most endearing of all the other felines in the house. She is an absolute doll! Mama Mia is still a bit shy and enjoys her feet on the ground as her preferred stance for a good petting session. If you give her a chance, she’ll make you smile and steal your heart.
As for Little Mouse, you can often catch her sunbathing in the special window box in her room or curled up in the Kitty Kasa or cat tower for a long nap. As all mice do, she comes out at night. Under the cover of darkness, she dances, coos, chirps and purrs her way around the room as she plays with her mom. It’s simply endearing. Little Mouse seems content with her life. As mentioned, she alternates between unsocialized and partially unsocialized behavior. She leans more towards the partially unsocialized side, with fear being her biggest hindrance. She may have experienced a bad interaction with humans early in her life as a young kitten. If so, that negative interaction may always stay with her. She may learn to trust more in time, but for now, she is happy staying close to her mom and peacefully interacting with several other resident felines who share the home. She does enjoy a Churu from time to time. Being food motivated, she braves the open for a chance to enjoy this treat.
Both girls are small, petite little brown tabby beauties. Up to date on vaccinations, combo negative and both spayed. Mama Mia is approximately 2.5 years old and Little Mouse is approximately 1.5. Mama Mia is gaining confidence by leaps and bounds. She is doing very well considering she may not have had much exposure to people in her early life as a kitten. She now seeks out pets and attention. She doesn’t run or shrink away…on the contrary, she absolutely soaks up all the love! The look in her eyes exudes pure bliss when she receives her long-awaited pets! She also enjoys all the other animals in the house, including one small dog. Given the opportunity, she will make an endearing companion to most anyone. Although not tested, her foster believes she will be good around small children. Her swatting days are behind since she knows she has nothing to fear. As for Little Mouse, being the cling-on she is, she gets to come along for the ride. The mom and daughter duo have never been apart, except for the 2-3 days they were trapped separately. Little Mouse looks to her mom for comfort and guidance. One can find them frequently snuggled together in the miniature catio window or having a cat nap in their bed. They look forward to a long, happy life together, with their human(s)!
Please consider adopting this very special bonded pair. We’re confident their personalities will continue to flourish in time in their forever home.
