Kitten Slide Show

Adult Cats

Scooter

Scooter is a classic, white, long-haired, adult male Turkish Angora with butterscotch markings. Neutered, up-to-date on shots, front-declawed, indoor cat with show cat lineage from a reputable breeder. Highly intelligent, animated and playful, no fly is safe near Scooter as he tracks them to the end. He is a talkative, personable people-lover, best suited to a home without other pets. Scooter is devoted, loving, protective and wants to be in the room with you. No experience with children, as he has spent his life in a loving home with only adults.

Lunar

Lunar came to us from death row at a public shelter. She is approximately 11 months old and a beautiful diva. Luna is more of a loner though she tolerates other kitties gracefully. She really just wants to be admired and doted on. She likes to play with humans and would probably do best as an only kitty in a quiet home without young children.

Savannah

Savannah’s story is heartbreaking and cringe-worthy: After giving birth to at least two litters of kittens, her family decided they liked one of her kittens better than her, thus abandoning her in the hallway of their apartment building. One of the neighbors brought her to us and we’re determined to find her a much better home the second time around. Savannah craves human attention. She is quite playful and good with children, but intimidated easily by other cats, so we think she might prefer a house without other pets. She is only about 1 year old.

Flash

Flash is an all white, long-haired, odd-eyed (green and blue), adult male Turkish Angora, an indoor cat with show cat lineage from a reputable breeder. Flash An extrovert: check out his record breaking high jump. He is most comfortable on the highest perch available. Flash travels well as he has experience on long journeys. We believe he is best suited to a home without other pets. No experience with children, as he has spent his life in a loving home with only adults.

Abbey Road

Abbey Road is an affectionate 1-year-old brown tabby who came to us pregnant from a public shelter. She delivered four beautiful babies: Joan, Paul, Georgia, and Ringo. Abbey then accepted a succession of motherless babies. Having earned the Tails High medal of honor for all that nursing, we want to find her a family befitting of her generosity. She is also highly social. Abbey was the first adult foster cat able to live among one foster’s four adult cats without there being any squabbles. Abbey is inordinately lovingly, playful, empathetic, and beautiful. She is unflappable, so would be happy in any environment, so long as there are people for her to love.

Kit

Kit is 2-year-old female who was found as a stray with babies. She’s just finishing helping to raise a litter of motherless kittens, for which we are very grateful and want to repay her generosity with a wonderful forever home. Kit is a beautiful black cat with a tiny white locket and amazing emerald eyes.

Blanca

Blanca is a young female, approximate 1 to 2 years old, who was found outside during the big snow storm in February with a litter of kittens. The kittens have been adopted and now it’s Blanca’s turn to find her forever home. She is a mellow cat with amazing gold eyes, one of which is tinged with green. She’s a petite girl who likes to pace back and forth while being scritched.

Michi

Michi is a loving and beautiful 9-year-old front-declawed cat who came to us from a county shelter. She was mad at the world, perhaps because she had lost her home and been abandoned by her family, and she was terribly afraid. But she has learned to trust people again and lavishes love, purrs, kisses, and hugs on people she meets. Michi demands very little: give her a litter box, a window, and a couple of cans of Fancy Feast classic chicken feast a day, and she’s content. When you’re home, she’ll sit with you or on you and rub against you, showing how happy she is to be with you by purring, chirping, and kneading on your tummy, chest, or leg.

Archie and Jughead

Archie (the redhead) and Jughead (the tabby) are 6-month-old twin boys who finally slowed down enough for us to snap a few photos of them. They are currently being fostered with a dog and everyone gets along just fine.  However, we think they would fit best into a quiet home without children.

Apricot

Apricot is a gorgeous 1-year-old patched tabby who came to Tails High pregnant from a county shelter. We’re certain her babies would have been just beautiful, but sadly, they were all stillborn. Now spayed, Apricot is looking for her forever home, which shouldn’t be hard to find. She is as beautiful as she is playful and loving, with amazing copper eyes, striking belly stripes, and a regal face like a lioness. Though fully grown, she is still energetic and playful as a kitten. Given her eagerness to jump into laps for a scritch, we believe she was once someone’s well-loved pet.

Edith

Edith earned the Tails High medal of honor for having just finished nursing her fourth litter of motherless kittens. We promised her that when she finished nursing, we would find her a home befitting of her act of generosity. This photo does not do Edith justice: she is a stunningly gorgeous petite Maine Coon mix tabby with silky soft fur and an extra fluffy tail. She’s a total people person, very sweet and cuddly and loves to follow her foster families around as they do housework, though she also enjoys being cuddled like a baby. She waits by the door of her foster’s home for them to come home from work. Edith was given a bath once and didn’t even squirm or meow, which makes us think she would be equally forgiving with young children.

Squeaky

Squeaky’s mom of 12 years married someone in the military and they received orders to move overseas. She was heartbroken to have to leave him behind but thought that this would be best for him. Squeaky is a handsome boy with gorgeous red coat and light green eyes. He’s a top cat who loves to perch near the ceiling and peer down at the other cats in the room. He loves to have his head scritched, and he loves to give kisses. He’s a great cat, and we want to find him a fabulous new home. Not that we want to give the wrong impression, but we think it’s uncanny how much he looks like a mountain lion or a cougar when he puts his head down.

Sara

Sara is a gentle soul with a face like a Picasso painting. She likes to hang out in protected places – under the credenza, between the glass patio door and the curtain, and in other nooks and crannies, but don’t be deceived! She is a sweetheart who is ready with a purr if you give her the slightest reason, in the form of patting, scratches behind the ears, or a special treat. She’ll also come out of hiding to eat – she loves wet food, treats, and (believe it or not!) sometimes peanut butter, which is a good thing, because she needs to take a thyroid pill, and she will usually take it right off your finger if you hide it in a little peanut butter. The moment she hears the can, she will be out from her hiding spot and chatting up a storm, telling you just how happy she is to be fed. Sara is an older, gentle, quiet kitty who is looking for someone special to give her a home and share her quiet, gentle moments with her. She would be best with adults – she’s too gentle and shy for rough-housing children, though she would almost certainly tolerate it with kindness.

Cody

Cody is approximately a year old. Seemingly part dalmatian and part ring-tailed lemur, Cody is a cuddler and a lap cat, but, she’s still a playful and energetic kitten. Cody has an amazing eye shape and coloring that is difficult to photograph but striking to see in person. Cody is currently in foster care with a pet rabbit. As you can see, the two are good friends.

Gingersnap

Gingersnap is a 2-year-old male who was found outside and was very shy in the beginning, but he’s coming around now. We’re spoiling him rotten and letting him know that he is welcome and life is good. We are confident that he will know the right family for himself when he sits on their laps.

Walter & Harry

Walter & Harry are a 1-year-old bonded pair pair of twin brothers who were rescued from outside. They love people but can be a little shy at first. Once they get to know you, they open up and love to be petted and brushed. They love the kittens they are being fostered with, but we think they would like a quiet home without other pets.

Lucky

Lucky was rescued from death row at PG County Shelter. He cheated death twice. He was found as a stray, emaciated with lots of wounds down his back as if he had been attacked by a dog. But this didn’t get Lucky down (hence his name). We know he was someone’s pet at one time as he had the telltale signs of where a collar once lived on his neck and he is front-declawed. Lucky is a special kitty and loves to be held, sit in your lap, gives head bonks and looks at you as if he is talking to you. He is a wise old soul in this little kitty body and Lucky deserves a wonderful home after all he’s been through.

Kitten Cam is back!

We stream between approximately 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

The current kittens are very special to us because they survived an illness that took the life of their mother and nine of their litter mates, so we named them after Smokey Robinson & the Miracles. (If you don’t know the name, you definitely know their songs. Click on the mp3 in the Shop to donate section for a reminder.) Smokey is the gray kitten, and then Roger is the black tuxedo, Robin is the spotty tabby, and Ronnie is the darker tabby. We’re holding on to them until Labor Day to make sure there are no lingering symptoms, after which time we’ll be so happy to see them go to forever homes.

The stream seems to work better on Internet Explorer than other browsers (which may not have the IE plugins installed). If you do not see a video box above this paragraph, you see a black box that says “waiting for video,” or you see a very small image in the box, you can open Kitten Cam in a separate program by following the directions below:

Windows users: Open Windows Media Player, press “ctrl+u”, and paste “http://69.143.52.39:8081″ into the box.

Mac users: Open VLC, go to the File menu, and click “Open Network.” A window called Open Source will open. Click the Network tab. Paste “http://68.84.6.217:8081″ into the URL box. Hit the “Open” button at the lower right. You’ll see a candy stripe moving below the URL in the VLC media player window. This can last a more than 4 minutes. A new window will open with the webcam on the kittens. It is pixelated at the beginning but clears the image itself within a minute. To enlarge the window, hit the cancel button on the Open Source Window, then drag the enlarging stripes on the lower right hand of the window.
