Tails High Adoption Adventures — November 12-13

We’re thrilled to welcome a new weekly column to our blog postings, “Tails High Adoption Adventures.” TH Adoption Leads will be contacting Advocate Mary B. every weekend to report on things that happened at their adoption venues that weekend, and Mary B. will post a blog entry. Here is the first column. I think after reading this, you’ll agree it’s a weekly must-read for TH Advocates and supporters.

In all, 13 of our cats and kittens found homes last weekend.  Everyone at TH deserves kudos for this accomplishment, including TH adoption advocates, foster parents, Petco feeders, socializers, and too many others to itemize.  The kitties say, “Meow, meow, meow” {translation:  We love you!  Thank you!  We love our new parents!]

[Note:  Mary bracketed links to former blog posts about cats mentioned in this posting if they'd previously been blogged about (like Moe, Velvet, Gemini).  I'm sure there's some way to hyperlink those so you could just click, but that's something we'll need to research/learn so we can do in future issues.]

By Mary B:

Last weekend’s adoption event at Petco Tyson’s Corner had us floating on air…literally! Four-month-old kitten, Barton, who once upon a time was described as a bashful boy, performed airborne acrobatics, doing his very best to show off for a prospective new family. According to TH Adoption Chair Kelley, he was “high jumping, flipping, and flying with his arms and legs spread wide.” Passersby could not stop commenting on his “natural athletic ability,” and the friend of a TH volunteer quickly claimed him for adoption. Barton’s new forever home will also include Clarke, a gray and white kitten with a sweet and interactive personality that will perfectly complement his new brother’s energetic hi-jinx. Both kittens are going to join an older cat at their new forever home.

Cindy and her daughter, Carly, both TH volunteers, had just welcomed jet-black kitten, Gemini [http://www.tailshigh.org/home/chip-eldora-dale-flag-star-gemini-jewel-laverne-peony-and-tiki-adopted-last-week/], into their home, but they couldn’t resist adopting two more from Petco Tyson’s Corner on Saturday. Spotty and Smudge are both four months old and are very ready to join this big, happy, accepting family. So, in total, Cindy and Carly are fostering-to-adopt three Tails High kittens. We foresee many crazy catnip battles and cuddle-fests in their future.

Other notable highlights from the event include Moe [ http://www.tailshigh.org/home/moe-the-duct-diving-kitten/], of recent duct-diving fame, charming a newlywed couple by lovingly wrapping his paw around the man’s shoulder, and insisting on being rocked like a baby. His innocent act wasn’t fooling anyone!

A prospective adopter from Annandale Petco signed on to foster our shiny, black kitten Lexus [http://www.tailshigh.org/home/available-kittens-some-of/], who will be joining an older cat in his new home. His adorable littermate Aston was also put on hold for adoption. And we are especially thrilled this week that many of these adopters, even though they already had cats, made a little more room in their homes and their hearts for our very special TH kitties.

Meanwhile, across the Potomac River at the DC Petco on Connecticut Avenue, the Saturday, November 12th adoption event experienced equal success. You may remember Jasmine [http://www.tailshigh.org/home/jasmine-finds-a-home/], now Beleza, who had recently been fostered-to-adopt by a family with two children. They were  all so taken with her sweet and inquisitive nature that a week later they drove all the way across the city from Mt. Rainier, Maryland to fill out the paperwork to finalize her adoption. They love her so much they simply could not  wait any longer!

At the same event our sleek, black beauty Velvet [http://www.tailshigh.org/home/kittens/] wowed visitors with her stunning green eyes. Many prospective kitty owners considered taking her home, so we know she’ll soon find her forever place.

And that’s all to report this week!  Please check back each week to read recaps of our upcoming adoption events, and be sure to leave a comment below if you have a sweet TH adoption story to share.
