Many Thanks, Katie and Sharnaye

Tails High is blessed to have volunteers of all ages.  Today we’re happy to feature two young volunteers who have  been with us since the founding of Tails High, Sharnaye and Katie.

Katie cuddling a TH kitten

Katie and her mom, Shelly, have provided a wonderful foster home for many Tails High kittens and cats the past two years, one of whom they adopted, Cesar (formerly Gabe).  Katie has spent hours at adoption events and in our house playing with, cuddling and socializing kittens.  Countless kittens owe a portion of their people-friendliness to Katie.  She’s also a fabulous fundraiser.  When she stands with a TH donation box in front of Mindful Hands in Old Town, money flows into the box.  Recently, Katie and Shelly helped at a CFC fair at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, and they passed out so many of our cards, we ran out!

Sharnaye with TH kitten

To call Sharmaye a cat lover is an understatement.  She spends as many hours as she can at Kelley’s house, helping with Kelley’s foster cats and kittens.  Sharnaye gives extra attention to especially shy kittens, and has helped many of these kittens come to trust people.  She also helps at as many of our adoption events as she can.  Recently, Sharnaye took on another task:  She took the lead in trapping the last few kitties from the alley behind her house to take to the Washington Humane Society for TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return).   Sharnaye has become very skilled at rigging the traps and getting the word out to all around her about spaying and neutering and vaccinating cats. Recently, she and Kelley got more adventure then they bargained for.  As they watched patiently for a little kitten to go in the trap, a police car pulled in behind them in the alley to investigate what they were doing there at midnight.  Bonus:  That officer now knows about TNR, too!

Footnote:  Poor Kelley found out that 15 minutes of sitting with her headlights on will drain a car’s battery, and she had to buy a new one.
