One of our all-star kitties, Velvet, has just been adopted! Her new mom, Anne Marie, had admired her at a past Petco DC adoption event, but with two cats at home, she hesitated before taking on a third. Several weeks went by, and Anne Marie’s older cat was diagnosed with cancer, and suddenly passed away. While she was grieving this loss, Anne Marie thought to stop in to check if Velvet was still available…and, as fate would have it, she was! Up until this point TH Adoption Advocates were surprised that she hadn’t yet been adopted, but once we witnessed the joy that gorgeous, green-eyed Velvet brought her grieving, new owner, we now know it was meant to be!
And this just in: we have three new kitties available for adoption at Tails High. Carter, Lucy, and Maggie have just come to us from a rather tragic background. Authorities recently uncovered an illegitimate animal rescue in Maryland, where 67 cats were being held, sometimes in one room all at once! We’re so glad Anne Arundel County Animal Control rescued these hoarded felines. Many of the rescued cats are still at the Anne Arundel Animal Shelter, but Carter, Lucy, and Maggie have come to us for cage-free living and loving socialization with their TH foster parents.
Carter is a gray tabby, around 5-6 years old. His foster mom described him as a very active “dancer.” His cohorts, Maggie and Lucy, are petite sisters with a very striking black and charcoal tabby coloring. They are both around 18 months old, and while they do not necessarily have to be adopted together, they are perfectly accustomed to having another cat around the house. All three kitties have spent most of their lives at Cool Cats Rescue, but happily they will soon be featured at upcoming TH events.
An investigation of Cool Cats Rescue is ongoing. Learn more about the incident in these following news articles:

From TH Advocate Juli, who was the first link in Velvet’s Angel Chain:
History of Velvet: When Velvet came to me after being trapped (she had been fed since a lone kitten near a school and in a yard in Falls Church)…As she sat in her relocation cage and looked up at us, she was so gorgeous and sweet with that gentle look in her face and those beautiful eyes that Val, my fellow trapper said, “she’s not going back out”, end of story, That is when some socializing began as she was just a bit past the “keep” age of 12-14 weeks, she was a few months old. I tried Joby’s clicker. It helped. She would touch it and get her reward but like all of these little outdoor kitties, she would not come to me. Then Kelley took charge and kept her at her side in her office. That did it. I couldn’t believe how calm she was when I visited a few months later. Thank heavens I could visit her when she was at Petco Annandale recently and I cleaned her cage on Thursdays. I was so excited to see her.
This is truly a wonderful adoption story as Velvet needed that special someone to fall in love with her. Thank You Tails High for giving Velvet TIME AND PATIENCE.. Thank you, thank you everyone for giving Velvet this chance. This will keep me going. Juli
